Hochadel, Abraham’s Engines says: New Jersey no. 279. 4-4-0. 16×24 in. cylinders. 54 in. drivers. 28 tons. 1862.06.17 Purchased from builder for $9500 as USMRR Dept. of Virginia #30/“Gen. McClellan.” 1862-1863 Used on Norfolk & Petersburg RR and Seaboard & Roanoke RR. Aboard ship at Fort Monroe for McClellan’s possible use on the Richmond & York River RR, then forwarded to Norfolk but never unloaded. 1864-1865 Used on City Point and Army Line RR. 1866-? Postwar history unknown.
