Russell, United States Military Railroad Photographic Album. No. 260. – EXCAVATING FOR “Y” AT DEVEREUX STATION, Orange & Alexandria Railroad.”

Herman Haupt and the locomotive bearing his name, together with John H. Devereux at the station bearing his.

Devereux Station on the USMRR-run O&A was in Clifton, Va. The nearest flat car is No. 296. The man at center right supervising is Herman Haupt. Though some sources suggest that John Devereux is one of the men standing at far right, we believe he is actually the man in the vest and white shirt standing at track level beside the front of USMRR locomotive “Gen. Haupt.” He can be clearly seen in the two Related Images.

An unidentified photographer, shooting 8 x 10 inch negatives, accompanied Russell on this excursion, and here they set up their cameras side by side – see Related Image AABT.
