T/his view gives a glimpse of the field hospital at Savage Station, Va., during the battle of June 27, 1862. The wounded are brought in by the hundreds and laid on the ground. Tending wounded Union soldiers at Savage’s Station, VA, after the battle of Gaines’ Mill on June 27, including the straw-hatted 16th New York Infantry. Most were captured when Confederates overtook the area during the battle of Savage’s Station on June 29.
