Hochadel, Abraham’s Engines says: New Castle built. 4-4-0. 15×22 in cyllinders. 60 in. drivers. 21.4 tons. 1853 Built as “Maryland” for the Philadelphia, Wilmington & Baltimore RR. 1862.07.21(?) Purchased from the PW&B for $6000 to become USMRR Dept. of Virginia #43/“Maryland.” 1862.03-04, 1862.06-11 Repaired at Alexandria (apparently beginning before its purchase date). 1862-1863 Used on the Orange & Alexandria RR and construction. 1864 Sold to J. F. Hollihan for $2,450.
