Heritage Auctions says: The outdoor image features Captain William L. Johnson in front of the 72 officers and men of the Sumter Light Guards, mustered into Confederate service as Company K, 4th Georgia Infantry. This image is one of the only views of an actual full-strength Confederate company under colors taken during the war. In this image the company appears to be wearing tight-fitting, nine-button shell jackets trimmed with buff colored cloth shoulder straps. The officers and non-commissioned officers wear blue frock coats. Under extreme magnification the caps appear to have brass “K / 4R” insignia. Three black drummers in a mixture of military and civilian clothing appear in the second row. The First National pattern flag has been retouched as its movements would have rendered it a ghostly blur.
