US Military Railroad locomotive “Fred Leach” with damage from rebel artillery, on the Orange & Alexandria Railroad.
Library of Congress says: U.S. Govt. engine “Fred Leach” and train as they appeared upon being repaired upon the track, & ready for removal to the Alexandria repair shop. The rebels had loosened a rail by which the engine was thrown from the track. They then fired several cannon shot; three of which passed through the smoke stack- dome and tender. Near Warrenton Va. April 1863.
