Hochadel, Abraham’s Engines says: New Jersey no. 306. 4-4-0. 16×24 in. cylinders. 54 in. drivers. 28 tons. 1863.01.09 Purchased from the builder for $12,491.32 as USMRR Dept. of Virginia #70/“Lion.” 1863.01-02, 1863.08-1864.02, 1864.04-07 Repaired at Alexandria. 1863 Used on the Orange & Alexandria RR and Richmond Fredericksburg & Potomac RR. 1864 Used on the O&A and construction. 1864 Used in North Carolina on Moorehead City and Goldsborough line (apparently before transfer to NC). 1865.04.14 Sent to USMRR Dept. of North Carolina, becoming #12/“Lion.” 1865.11.30 Sold to the North Carolina RR after the war for $15,000 then transferred to the Richmond & Danville RR.
