Abdill, Civil War Railroads, p131 says: Engine No. 3, shown here, was an 0-4-0 saddletank with the old hook valve motion built for the Nashville & North Western by Rogers in August, 1860 and was one of the locomotives captured by the U.S. Military Railroads and used by them during their operations in Tennessee, retaining her original number on the U.S.M.R.R. roster.
